Security alert ends after viable device found

A viable device has been found during a security alert in Ballyclare, County Antrim.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said they received a report of a suspicious object in a residential area in Holestone Road at 22:50 BST on Saturday.

Officers attended and the device was taken away for further forensic examinations.

This is the second security alert in County Antrim over the weekend – another viable device was discovered in Newtownabbey on Saturday afternoon.

A suspicious object in Rathmore Drive in the Rathcoole estate was reported to police at 12:30 on Saturday.

PSNI and army technical officers (ATO) were at the scene and the device was also taken away for forensic examination.
